Elmira Heights Theatre

210 E 14th St. Elmira Heights, NY 14903

The Heights Theater, located at 210 East 14th Street in Elmira Heights, New York, has long stood as a symbol of shared stories, family moments, and small-town connection. Originally opening on June 16, 1949, the theater served generations of local residents as a classic neighborhood cinema during a time when moviegoing was a central part of American life.

Built in the post-World War II era and designed in the Streamline Moderne style, the Heights Theater reflected the optimism of its time. With a single screen and seating for hundreds, it quickly became a gathering place where families, friends, and neighbors came together to laugh, cry, and make memories under one roof.

Like many independent theaters across the country, the Heights faced challenges as entertainment habits changed. After periods of closure and reopening, the building eventually ceased regular operation, though its place in the heart of the community never faded.

Today, the Heights Theater enters a new chapter under the ownership of His Tabernacle Family Church, with a renewed commitment to serve and bless the Elmira Heights community. The vision is simple and intentional: to restore the building as a welcoming space where families can gather, memories can be made, and the community can connect.

To begin, the theater will host one to two free monthly family movie events, offering a safe, joyful environment centered on togetherness and shared experiences.

The space will also be available to rent for concerts, performances, birthday parties, and other special events, allowing individuals, families, and organizations to host their own gatherings in an affordable, flexible venue. In this way, the theater once again serves as a versatile space for creativity, celebration, and community life.

The renewed Heights Theater honors its past while looking forward with purpose — not simply as a building, but as a place where generations can continue to gather, celebrate, and create new memories together.
